Our 6th and 7th grade students have completed PARCC ELA testing. If your 6th or 7th grader missed any of the sessions, make-up sessions will be provided at a later date. Please note the schedule listed below with the remaining PARCC testing days.

Please do your best to ensure that your student attends school on their scheduled test date. Summer School Invitations: Upon recommendation from teachers, students in grades 6 & 7 were selected to attend the Academic Intervention Summer School Program. This free program offers daily instruction in the areas of reading and math in a small group setting. It will be staffed by outstanding teachers from our staff and neighboring schools. Summer school participation invitations were mailed to parents of students in grades 6 & 7 this week. The participation and health forms are due on May 2nd. Parents or students can return the completed forms in one of the following manners:

Student Entrance: It looks like SPRING is finally here!!! During the cold winter months, we allowed students to enter the building starting at 8:05, and they were monitored in the cafeteria, by MHMS staff members. Now that warmer weather seems to be here to stay, students will be asked to remain outside until the 8:15 a.m. bell rings. Thank you for helping to remind your student of this seasonal change. FINAL CALL for MHMS Memory Book Sales: Students may still purchase a MHMS Memory Book!! All orders are due on April 27th, but the online system will be open until 29th. Only online order will be accepted after the 27th. The cost of our Memory Book is $18.00. When you order online you have various options such as upgrading to a hard cover book, personalizing the book with your student’s name, and other optional add-ons for an additional cost. Story Strong Live Event: Throughout the school year Ms. Schaefer’s 8th grade math classes have been defining their math identities. Students have been exploring their feelings about math, what makes them excited or frustrated about the subject, and how their stories have evolved. On Monday, April 30th, the annual Story Strong Live Event will take place at Long Reach High School from 6:30-8:00 PM. Many of our students’ projects will be displayed. One of our own students, Angel O., along with Ms. Schaefer have been chosen to speak at the event to share their stories. Please drop by to support our students and see what amazing work they have done all year. Free Immunizations: The Health Department will be offering free immunizations at MHMS on May 8th, for sixth grade students who need a Tdap or MCV to enter 7th grade. Permission slips will be coming home with your student soon. MHMS 6th and 7th Grade Walkathon: The MHMS Walkathon is on Monday, May 21st. All 6th and 7th graders will be participating in a Walkathon to help raise money for Howard County's homeless shelter, Grassroots. This activity is a part of the Student Service Learning hours that are required for students to graduate high school. The students have been given a pledge form that will be used to collect donations per lap that they walk. They are also able to collect a one-time donation. Students are encouraged to ask family and friends for the donations. Details about the donations are on the top of the pledge sheet. These forms are due May 15th (no money is due at this time). We will also need a few parent volunteers on the day of the Walkathon to assist in keeping track of student laps. Contact Danika Gribble (danika_gribble) if you would like to volunteer. Thank you! PTA NEWS MHMS PTA 5K Fun Run: Plan to join us on Saturday, May 12th at 8:30 a.m. for the MHMS Fun Run! This will be a great time for the whole family. If you are unable to attend the event, but would still like to support the fundraiser, consider purchasing an event t-shirt for just $14.00. Raise money for your school programs while enjoying the freshest produce. When you join the CSA, money will be returned to the schools' PTA as a donation. Community Youth Summit: We are excited to partner with the Pearl Foundation again this year for the 2018 Community Youth Summit on Saturday, May 5th from 8:00am - 3:00pm. It is a FREE event for students in middle and high school! We need 10 student volunteers. Students will assist with set-up for the day and registration. They will also be participating in the student Summit sessions and the end of the day breakdown, if possible. Timeframe is 7:45am to 3:30. They may be able to receive a t-shirt, so capture their sizes. All student names, sizes and schools should be sent to Hannah Zimmerman ASAP. Students should register for the event.
